The Honda Foundation Supports Miracle Babies Foundation

The Honda Foundation surpassed $14 million donations in 2023, and we are still striving to exceed this value to continue to empower organisations to support those in the community across Australia.

Miracle Babies Foundation received a donation from The Honda Foundation to purchase kangaroo care recliner chairs this past year, to support with their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Parents with a premature or sick newborn are extremely vulnerable and at an increased risk of postnatal depression. Every year in Australia, more than 48,000 babies are admitted to the NICU or Special Care Nursery in the hospital.

It’s vital that parents are comforted and supported with a calm and supportive environment. The kangaroo chairs help to ensure that these families don’t go through this hard time alone.

These chairs are designed to support skin-to-skin contact between parents and their babies, encouraging a deeper sleep, improved breathing for the baby, reduced risk of infection, easier breastfeeding and overall improved bonding with the parents and their newborn.

Families like Felipe and Rachel, who are parents to baby Anne (born at 30 weeks) described the service at Miracle Babies quite highly for himself and his wife.

‘I cannot overstate the importance of this feeling to our mental health’.

As a result of our support, The Honda Foundation was awarded a certificate of appreciation from Miracle Babies Foundation, and we cannot be prouder of their work and support in the community.
