Few Honda customers realise that when they purchase their new Honda vehicle, they are automatically supporting a range of worthy causes across Australia, changing the lives of many people in need.
For every new Honda vehicle sold in Australia, The Honda Foundation receives $15 to support a range of charitable causes. The dealership who sold the vehicle donates $5 and Honda Australia donates $10 to The Honda Foundation.
The most recent donation from The Honda Foundation and Rex Gorell Honda in Geelong, Victoria is for $9,700 to Barwon Health to purchase a SaeboMAS mobile arm support system for the Children’s Rehabilitation facility.
Barwon Health is Victoria’s largest regional health service and includes specialized Pediatric Rehabilitation Service caring for children, from birth to 18 years of age. Many patients have an acquired brain injury from car accidents, falls, strokes and brain tumors.
“The Honda Foundation is delighted to support the Pediatric Rehabilitation Service at Barwon Health with this fundamental equipment,” said Chairman of The Honda Foundation, Mr. Stephen Collins.
“The SaeboMAS mobile arm support system has the potential to dramatically improve the motor skills and strength of many children and adolescence from Geelong and surrounding areas,”
The specialised equipment will be housed in the therapy gym to assist young patients increase motor control, strength and purposeful movement after a traumatic brain injury.
Barwon Health is currently in the planning stages of a new development at the McKellar Centre in North Geelong to provide effective service to children, and their families. The development will be based on the department guidelines and floor plan of the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.
“The new centre will make a big difference to the lives of children and their families who require rehabilitation due to acquired brain injuries, spinal injuries, stroke, brain and spinal tumours and those with cerebral palsy,” said Executive Director of Barwon Health Foundation, Jill Moody.
“This donation from the Honda Foundation for a vital piece of equipment will make a big difference in making this new centre a reality.”
Last year Honda Australia sold 46,783 vehicles, so each donation provides strong support for The Honda Foundation.
More than $10 million has been donated to hundreds of worthy causes, including empowering disadvantaged Australians, providing relief for victims of natural disasters and supporting the development of new technologies and research to fight disease.
